How to configure a TP-Link extender

Having problems with wireless coverage in some areas of your home? A range extender might be the best option instead of buying a new router. Range extenders are not only a solid but also an economical alternative to buying a new router. With a Wi-Fi range extender, you can easily amplify and improve the strength of your Wi-Fi signal. Here’s how to set up a TP-Link extender.

TP-Link extender setup

Step 1: Connect the extender to the power supply

First, connect your range extender to a power source and wait for it to turn on. Make sure the extender is close to the router during setup.

Step 2: Connecting the PC to the extender

Once the extender turns on and the lights become solid, connect your PC to the range extender’s default network. You will find the default SSID printed on a label on the back of the router. It is usually labeled “TP-Link_Extender”.

Step 3: Access the extender management page.

Access the range extender administration page: http://tplinkrepeater.net/. You will only be able to access this page if your PC is connected to the default network.

Step 4: Create a login password

You will be prompted to create a login password for the router administration page. Enter a password as you prefer.

Step 5: Quick Setup

Once logged in, go to the “Quick Setup” tab. Next, find the original Wi-Fi SSID, enter the Wi-Fi password and connect the range extender to the router’s Wi-Fi network. If you have a dual-band router, you will need to do this twice: once for the 2.4 GHz band and once for the 5 GHz band.

Step 6: Confirm

After entering the main network password, you will need to “Confirm”.

Step 7: Configure the extended network

You will now be prompted to configure the extended network settings, i.e. the SSID and password of the extended network.

Step 8: Connect the PC to the extended network

Connect your PC to the extended Wi-Fi network. Click “I have connected to the extended network” and then click “Finish”.

Key factors when relocating your range extender

After configuring your TP-Link range extender, you may need to relocate it. Here are some things to keep in mind when relocating the range extender:
The range extender must be close to the router to receive a strong signal.

Place the range extender between the router and the area that needs better coverage, i.e. where the signal is weak.
If the signal light is green, it means that the position of the range extender is adequate.
If the signal light is red, it indicates that the signals are weak from the original router and you will need to move the range extender closer to the router.

Setting up a TP-Link extender is a simple task by following the steps mentioned above. A range extender is an effective and economical solution to improve Wi-Fi coverage in weak signal areas of your home. Don’t forget to consider the key factors when relocating your range extender to ensure an optimal wireless connection.
